If you want to experience living history, we recommend a visit to Den Fynske Landsby in Odense, where people live, work and dress like in the 19th century.
The open-air iron age village in Næsby has living workshops and you can explore the reconstructed houses with bed places, kitchen utensils and tools.
The terrarium in Vissenbjerg hosts Scandinavia’s largest collection of reptiles, amphibians, scorpions, spiders, insects etc.
For those who are not prone to seasickness, we recommend boat trips in the archipelago of south of Funen, for example from Faaborg to Bjørnø, from Ærø to Als and Mommark, from Marstal to the mini-island of Birkholm or from Svendborg via Skarø to Drejø.
You can also go on a seal safari around Strynø from Rudkøbing. If you want to get close to marine animals, the Fjord&Bælt Centre is a must with both seals, porpoises, fish and crabs.
Idyllic Fisherman’s Village
The old fisherman’s village of Kerteminde is itself a site and one the most picturesque places on Funen. The fisher girl Amanda greats the tourists and the old fishermen’s houses are well-preserved in the inner city.
The short distance to Odense has made Kerteminde a favoured tourist town. The harbour is still today the most important fishing port of Funen with fish auction and food industry, so you will find not just idyll but also real life in Kerteminde.
Tornøes Hotel and Kerteminde Brewhouse
Kertemnde had its period of greatness in 1536-1850, where the town was the most important loading port for Odense. It is said that the maritime trade greatly benefitted the general trade. Tornøes Hotel was one of the enterprises that benefitted from the prosperity. Tornøes Hotel was at that time a merchant’s house with its own brewery. The merchant’s house is no longer here but the beer is still flowing from the taps.
If you care for good beer, Kerteminde Brewhouse offers you one of the most authentic experiences on Funen. Today’s production is still based on the old traditions with classical craftmanship and the best raw materials without additives.
The hotel has been refurbished with respect for its history but is not lacking any modern comfort: Bathroom, TV, radio, telephone and naturally wireless internet in all single rooms, double rooms, suites and conference rooms.
