Ladbyskibet

www.vikingemuseetladby.dk

In 1934, Denmark’s only preserved ship grave from the Viking Age – the Ladby Ship – was found together with 11 smaller graves containing various grave goods. Around 925, a headman had been buried with his horses, dogs and other grave goods inside his ship. The grave has later been plundered, perhaps by relatives of a rivalling headman.

Today, the grave is preserved in cooled surroundings behind a glass display where it is laying as a silent witness of the past.
